This is one of my favorite colored pencil pieces. I was inspired by a photo I took of a gray squirrel who was watching me in my yard. I raised an orphaned squirrel that fell out of a tree not far from the one this squirrel was in. My baby squirrel had no hair and was no bigger than my thumb when he fell from the nest. He went to work with me every day and spent the day in my classroom until it was time to go home. When he was grown, I gave him to a trustworthy student who lived in the country with no dogs in the neighborhood. She released him, and she told me he came to visit her every day.
